Sencha Green Tea

Sencha Green Tea is an everyday tea and contains a large concentration of Vitamin C. About 80% of all Japanese teas exported are of the Sencha variety.

It is grown in full sunlight and picked in early spring after the leaves have developed their balance of sweetness and astringency. Sencha is a vegetal flavoured tea, recognized for its delicate sweetness and floral aromas.

Brewing Sencha Green Tea

Water - Use cold, filtered water. Avoid tap water if possible since the chlorine may affect the quality of tea.

Heat water to a rolling boil and allow it to sit for a minutes. Green tea is more delicate than black tea so you want to make sure that the water is a little cooler. Boiling water also cooks the leaves and results in them losing their flavour.

Steeping time - Steep for 1-2 minutes. Sencha when over brewed, can turn bitter.

Zuisho Pine Sencha, from Art of Tea, is premium deep steam organic green tea and derives its name from leaves shaped like pine needles. A unique tea, available stateside directly from Japan.

Other Teas to try are the Sencha and the Eisais Choice Sencha. This is the highest quality Sencha from the famed Uji Gardens, used in the Zen monasteries of Japan and aids in meditation, and helps bring clarity and focus.
