Gyokuro Green Tea

Gyokuro Green Tea is a treasure of Japanese Teas. The English translation for Gyokuro is “Pearl Dew”, which reflects the gemstone-like color and naturally sweet flavor.

Particular care is taken when cultivating gyokuro tea plants to get the special tenderness and sweetness.

Three weeks before harvest, the tea plants are shaded using screens and matting. The reduced sunlight slows down the photosynthesis effect and contributes to the colour, aroma and taste of this gentle tea.

It is favoured as an after dinner tea in Japan.

Brewing Gyokuro

Gyokuro requires cooler water, about 60 degrees C/140 degrees F.

High quality Gyokuro will yield 3 infusions.

The leaves should steep for about 2 minutes for the first infusion and subsequent infusions will be shorter, about 30 seconds and 45 seconds.
