What makes Green Tea so special?

When it comes to health benefits, there is no competition - Green Tea is ”The Brew” of the hot beverage world and as such deserves special recognition.

Although modern society today is slowly uncovering the health benefits of Green Tea, the benefits of drinking tea were discovered some 4000 years ago in China.

Green Tea is best known for its high level of antioxidants called polyphenols or flavonoids which fights or blocks the oxidation process that occurs within our body. It is made from unfermented leaves which retain a higher amount of natural vitamins (carotene, A, B1, B2, B6, C, D) and it contains minerals such as iron, sodium and potassium.

If you are new to this wonder brew and are in the exploratory stages, you may find that it is a bit of an acquired taste. Well, that was my experience anyway. However, it should not take you long to fall in love with this wonderful, yet simple beverage and with the added bonus of enjoying all the health benefits it has to offer.

A tea moment in Japan…..

When my husband and I visited Kyoto a few years ago, we stayed at a Ryokan (Japanese version of a B&B) and every evening when we got back to the Ryokan, there would be a pot of Japanese tea waiting for us in our room, compliments of our host. It was such a treat and something we both really looked forward to each evening. We would sit on the tatami mats, sip our tea and feel the tiredness ebb with each sip. That was one of the many wonderful memories of our trip to Japan.
