Genmaicha Green Tea

Genmaicha Green Tea is a blend of steamed green tea and roasted rice. This is is a traditional favourite in Japan. This unique combination creates a nutty taste and toasty fragrance. It’s lower in caffeine than other green teas. Genmaicha is easy to drink with most types of Asian food. It’s inexpensive and also makes a good breakfast tea.

Brewing Genmaicha

Water - Avoid tap water if possible since the chlorine may affect the quality of tea.

Heat water to a rolling boil and allow it to sit for a minutes. Green tea is more delicate than black tea so you want to make sure that the water is a little cooler. Boiling water also cooks the leaves and results in them losing their flavour.

Steeping Time - Steep for about 1 minute for the first and second infusion and increase steeping times for subsequent brewing.

Pour tea through a strainer or if you are using an infusing basket, remove basket and pour. Enjoy!
