Chai Tea Recipe



Chai Tea Recipe

The recipes for chai tea vary. It’s fun to experiment. Using this as a base, you will eventually find or create your own favourite concoction. Or you may just enjoy this recipe the way it is. The is authentic, traditional Chai!

This makes 2 cups

Ingredients

1.5 cups water
2 cloves
4 cardamoms
Pinch of fennel seeds
1.5 inch cinnamon stick
3 teaspoons of tea leaves (Assam, Darjeeling or your own favourite black tea)

Crush all spices using pestle and mortar. Crushing the spices bring out the flavour very nicely.

Place water and all spices in a pot and bring to boil

Cover and lower the heat to allow it to simmer for about 10-15 minutes

Add tea leaves and bring it to a gentle boil, then allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes

Add milk and sugar and bring to a gentle boil

Remove from heat and strain. Enjoy!

As noted, there are many variations to this recipe. To the spice mix, you can add nutmeg, peppercorns and bay leaves. Try different recipes and figure out which one works best for you.


Recipe for Milk Tea

This is very similar to chai tea but instead of water, use milk.

This makes 2 cups

Ingredients

2.5 cups of milk
¼ inch fresh ginger root
2 cloves
4 cardamoms
Pinch of fennel seeds
1.5 inch cinnamon stick
3 teaspoons of tea leaves (Assam, Darjeeling or your own favourite black tea)


Crush all spices using pestle and mortar

Place milk, spices and tea in a pot and bring to a gentle boil

Add sugar and allow to simmer for about 10 minutes

Remove from stove, strain and pour
