Chai Tea Latte - decadent, spiced and heavenly
Chai Tea Latte is more of a Western fad. This is not something you would find in India. I don’t recall seeing this on the menu during my travels to India recently. But in the Western world, it is definitely catching on and gaining ground as a drink of choice.
What can be more decadent than a cup of tea spiced with cardamom, cloves, fennel and cinnamon stick. Add steamed milk and top it with a soft foamy mixture. That last bit just brings it up a notch from a regular cup of Chai.
I don’t know about you, but just the description is enough to get my mouth watering! And if you're thinking of your waistline and having a bit of a guilt trip, just remember all the spices that are added to this heavenly brew have health benefits, so they are good for you!
So, what make a latte version different from a Chai Tea. Well, not too much. The ingredients are similar but a couple of things differentiate these two brews. In Chai Tea, the milk is usually not heated when it is added to the pot of tea, whereas for a latte, we use steamed milk. Also, when we use the word “latte”, it means that the steamed milk is usually from an espresso machine, that velvety, soft foamy texture.
Try a Chai Latte and you won't be disappointed, whether you are sitting down at home after a long day of work and having that perfect cup of chai or at a cafe with friends. With cafes, you do have to scout around to find a blend that suits your taste but once you find that perfect Chai mix blend, it can be absolutely quite out of this world. Can you tell how much I like my Chai!
